A SELECTION OF TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY VIDEOS FOR MAY 2018
Most people like to take photos when on holiday. To document their trip, maybe capture events, street scenes, the vibe of new towns or cities, certainly photography their friends and family, and for some, take landscape photos.
If landscape photography is a thing you do then check out the four YouTube channels highlighted below. Each channel has a different perspective on landscape photography, providing inspiration and technical advice, and in most cases, entertainment.
DEATH VALLEY 2018: (DAY 1) LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY
Ben Horne, a large format landscape photographer, has a vlog style expedition series on photographing Death Valley, the northern Mojave Desert, Eastern California. Although not many people use large format cameras, these video journeys are well produced with a mix of technical photo making tips, the outdoors experience, and general travel advice, proving an insight into a unique form of landscape photography.
TRAVELLING TO PATAGONIA FOR LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY
Thomas Heaton’s channel presents a more traditional approach to landscape photography. A British photographer with high quality UK and European landscape content (although he is currently in South America). This channel has a good balance of instructional type videos, in the field advice and behind-the-scenes photography tips, and quality vlog style material about the process of landscape photography.
MY PHOTOGRAPHY TRIP PLANNING TECHNIQUE
Dave Morrow has an informative adventure based landscape photography channel, with great technical advice on taking photos, videos that cover photography fundamentals, tips on hiking and backcountry photo expeditions, and detailed advice on travel, hiking, and photo gear selection. If you want more, check out his website for lots of detailed photography and outdoors information.
USING SOFT LIGHT IN LANDSCAPES
Unlike the above, Sean Tucker is not primarily a landscape photographer. However, his channel might provide some of the most interesting and helpful photography content you'll find on YouTube. Employing a thoughtful, philosophical approach is the key, with less of an emphasis on pure technique and gear, and coupled with high production values, makes his channel a unique resource for the travel photographer.
