MODERN VESTA BOX
A match safe is vintage technology. The original match safe was called a vesta case or vesta box, developed in the 1830s when strike anywhere matches became popular. As these early matches were somewhat unreliable and could easily ignite from rough handling a sensible person carried their matches safe and dry in a small portable metal box. The Best Made Company’s Sliding Match Safe is a modern example of the vesta box, made from 22 gauge steel featuring a sliding match tray with magnetic closure and brass knurled knob to strike ignite the match. And it holds a bunch of matches.
